Police Investigate Serious 3 Car Collision

Released on Wednesday, March 15, 2023

On March 14, 2023, at approximately 7:51 p.m., Fort Collins 911 was notified of a collision involving three vehicles in the intersection of South Shields Street and West Swallow Road. Two occupants of the Audi were transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Due to the severity of the injuries, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation. In order to safely investigate the crash, the intersection was closed for five hours as investigators remained on scene.

At this time, the investigation has determined that an Audi sedan was traveling southbound on South Shields Street through the intersection as a Volvo SUV was attempting a left turn across southbound lanes. After an initial collision, the Audi continued southbound and struck a Toyota truck which was traveling northbound and slowing in the turn lane for westbound Swallow Road. Investigators are trying to determine if speed was a factor in this crash.

“Every driver plays a role in traffic safety. It is important that everyone observes posted speed limits and traffic control devices.“ said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team.

Anyone with information who has not already spoken to police is asked to call Officer Matt Brede at (970) 221-6842. No further information will be released at this time.
