Fort Collins Police and Poudre Fire Authority safely resolve incident involving suicidal subject in apartment complex.
On February 24, 2023 at 6:58 AM, Fort Collins 911 received a text message from an unknown subject stating they were going to commit suicide in their apartment using chemicals in the 3600 block of S. Timberline Rd. Officers along with the Poudre Fire Authority Hazmat Team responded to the scene of a two-story multi-family building.
Teams worked to safely evacuate the building out of an abundance of caution. At approximately 8:42, Fort Collins Police Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) utilized a robot to enter the apartment where they located an adult male who was conscious and alert. The male was able to walk out of the apartment where he was provided medical treatment as well as assistance from our Mental Health Response Team.
Poudre Fire Authority remains onscene testing the air for substances and venting the building to ensure it is safe for residents to re-enter.
“This was a heavily resource intensive call that involved excellent communication and coordination among patrol, Fort Collins 911, SWAT, Poudre Fire Authority, and property management,” said Patrol Lieutenant Kevin Cronin. “We’re grateful that these efforts lead to a positive outcome for someone needing help in our community.”
