Police Investigate Serious 3 Car Collision

Released on Wednesday, February 8, 2023

On February 8, 2023 at approximately 7:08 a.m., Fort Collins Police were notified of a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of North Timberline Road and Crusader Street. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered that there was a total of three vehicles involved in the collision, and one of the drivers had serious injuries. Due to the severity of the collision, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation.

The investigation to this point has revealed that a 2001 Mercury Cougar was travelling northbound on Timberline Road approaching Crusader Street. A 2016 Chevy Impala was on Crusader Street and stopped for the stop sign at Timberline Road. The Impala emerged from the stop sign and struck the side of the Cougar. This caused the Cougar to spin and was then struck by a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 that was travelling southbound on Timberline Road. The driver of the Cougar, an adult male, was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Each vehicle was only occupied by the drivers, and neither of other drivers were injured in the collision. The roadway was closed for approximately five and a half hours while investigators processed the scene. Investigators are still working to determine what caused the collision, and the investigation is ongoing.

“We would like to ask and remind drivers and passengers in vehicles to utilize the occupant restraints that are available to them,” said Sergeant Mike Avrech.

Anyone with information regarding this collision who has not already spoken to police is asked to call Officer Brandon Barnes at (970) 221-6842. No additional information will be released at this time.
