Police Investigate Collision Involving Police SUV
On January 28, 2023 at approximately 9:00 a.m., a Fort Collins Police Corporal was responding emergent with his lights and sirens activated to assist other officers and another law enforcement agency on a high risk stop. At the intersection of South Lemay Avenue and East Mulberry Street, a collision occurred between the Corporal's Police Interceptor SUV and a 2009 Honda Accord. The Interceptor was heading northbound, and the Accord was travelling westbound. The collision caused the Interceptor to roll and come to rest on its roof.
The driver of the Accord, and only occupant, sustained minor injuries as did the Corporal. Due to the nature of the collision, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to investigate the collision. The roadway was closed for approximately four and a half hours while investigators processed the scene.
"We are thankful despite how the scene appeared, that no one was seriously injured," said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team.
Anyone with information who has not already spoken to police and has information regarding the collision is asked to call Officer David Kaes at (970) 416 2229. This is an active and on-going investigation so no further information will be released.
