Police Investigate Hit & Run Pedestrian Collision

Released on Sunday, January 1, 2023

On January 1, 2023 at 1:14 am, Fort Collins Police received a call of an adult male bleeding at the intersection of Suniga Road and Redwood Street. When officers arrived on scene, there was evidence present that the male was struck by a vehicle travelling eastbound on Suniga Road. The male was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The investigation to this point has revealed that the male was a pedestrian crossing Suniga Road going north when he was struck by the vehicle. The vehicle that struck the male did not stop and has not contacted police. Due to the severity of the collision, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation. Investigators are looking for the run vehicle and asking for the community's assistance in locating it. The vehicle may be a silver Mazda and most likely has front end damage including but not limited to the grill, hood, and windshield.

"Hit and run collisions cannot become common in our community, someone knows who the run driver and vehicle are, and we ask them to contact us to help solve this crime," said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team.

The intersection of Suniga Road and Redwood Street was partially closed down for approximately 7 and a half hours while investigators processed the scene.

If anyone has any information regarding this collisions or surveillance video that captures eastbound Suniga Road in between Redwood Street and Lemay Avenue, they are asked to call Officer Dave Kaes at (970) 416 2229. Someone with information could also provide an anonymous tip with Larimer County Crime Stoppers at (970) 221 6868.
