Police Investigate Serious Collision

Released on Sunday, July 17, 2022

On July 17, 2022 at approximately 7:40 am, Fort Collins Police were notified of an injury crash between a pickup truck and coupe sedan at the intersection of East Drake Road and South Timberline Road. When officers arrived on scene, it was discovered that the driver of the coupe had life threatening injuries. That driver was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. Due to the severity of the collision, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation.

The investigation revealed that a 2006 Hyundai coupe was travelling north bound on Timberline Road when it collided with a 2019 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck that was travelling west bound on Drake Road. The pickup truck rolled as a result of the collision, and both vehicles came to rest on the north side of the intersection. Officers are working to determine who had the right of way when the collision occurred. Each vehicle only had a driver in it (no passengers). Anyone with information who has not already spoke to police is asked to call Fort Collins Police Officer Matt Brede at (970) 221 6842.

“We ask drivers to always be attentive when at the wheel and wear their seat belts when driving,” said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team. The intersection of Timberline and Drake was only open to eastbound traffic; the intersection was blocked for approximately five hours while investigators processed the scene.
