Police are investigating a fatal collision involving a motorcycle and SUV.

Just before 7 a.m. on May 10, 2022, Fort Collins 911 received multiple calls about a crash at South College Avenue and Triangle Drive. Investigators determined that a 1997 Honda CB900 motorcycle was traveling south on College Avenue when it was involved in a collision with a 2008 GMC Yukon turning left from Triangle Drive onto northbound College Avenue. The 34-year-old male driver of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The 44-year-old male driver of the Yukon was not injured.

The Fort Collins Police Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling (CRASH) team responded, and southbound College Avenue was closed from Trilby Road to Carpenter Road for about 3.5 hours while they processed the scene. Police are investigating the motorcycle’s speed as a factor in this collision.

“This was a tragic and preventable situation that will forever affect the family of the motorcyclist, as well as those who witnessed the crash,” said Sgt. Mike Avrech, who leads the Traffic Unit. “As the weather warms up and more people are out in our community, we need everyone to do their part in keeping Fort Collins roads safe.”

The Larimer County Coroner will identify the motorcyclist at a later time. Anyone with information about this incident, who hasn’t already spoken to police, may contact Officer Ken Koski at 970-416-2229.
