Police Investigate Auto vs Ped Collision
On November 13, 2021, at approximately 7:30 pm, Fort Collins Police were made aware of a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle in the 800 block of West Prospect Road. When officers arrived on scene, they located the pedestrian, an adult male, with serious injuries. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Due to the extent of the pedestrian’s injuries, the Fort Collins Police Services CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to investigate the collision.
The facts known to investigators at this time are that the pedestrian was crossing from north to south mid-block in the 800 block of West Prospect. The pedestrian was not in a designated cross walk. When the pedestrian was crossing, a collision occurred with a 2009 Hyundai Sonata that was travelling eastbound on Prospect. The Hyundai was occupied with three adult occupants, neither were injured. The vehicle also stopped and stayed at the scene.
Police are investigating if the pedestrian was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Police do not suspect any impairment regarding the driver of the Hyundai.
“We ask pedestrians to utilize marked and designated crosswalks for their safety. Crossing mid-block is dangerous and unfortunately has been a factor in several of our more serious collisions lately,” said Lieutenant Mike Trombley who oversees the CRASH Team.
Anyone who has information regarding this collision who has not already spoken to police are asked to call Officer Ken Koski at (970) 416 2229. The investigation is on-going and no further information will be released at this time.
