On July 29, 2021 at 8:19 pm, Fort Collins 911 received multiple 911 calls regarding a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of South Taft Hill Road and West Trilby Road. A group of motorcyclists was heading northbound on S. Taft Hill Road. A Mazda RX7 was travelling southbound on S. Taft Hill Road preparing to turn left and go eastbound on W. Trilby Road. One motorcyclist and the vehicle collided, and two other motorcyclists crashed as a result of the collision in front of them. The three motorcyclists sustained serious injuries, and the driver of the Mazda was uninjured. All drivers were adult males. Due to the severity of injuries, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation.

Investigators are working to determine vehicle positions in the lanes, and if there was a possible lane usage violation. Police do not suspect speed, alcohol, or drugs to be factors in this case. South Taft Hill Road was closed in between Harmony Road and 57th Avenue in Loveland for approximately 5.5 hours while investigators processed the scene.

“We are still processing evidence to determine where each vehicle was when the collision occurred. Thankfully the motorcycle riders were all wearing helmets when this occurred, or else the outcome almost certainly would have been more tragic,” said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police Traffic Enforcement Unit.

Anyone with information who has not already spoken to police is asked to call Officer Ken Koski at (970) 416-2229.
