On May 6, 2021 at approximately 6:22 am, Fort Collins 911 was notified of an injury collision between a truck and a bicyclist at the intersection of North Overland Trail and Laporte Avenue. Due to the severity of the injuries to the bicyclist, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation.

Investigators determined that a 2018 Ford F-150 pickup was traveling southbound on North Overland Trail when it disregarded the red light at Laporte Avenue and collided with a bicyclist that was riding westbound along Laporte Avenue. The adult male bicyclist was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The adult male driver of the Ford F-150 did not sustain injuries during the collision.

"Traffic laws are in place to keep everyone safe," said Lt. Michael Trombley, who oversees the Traffic Unit. "As the weather warms up and more cyclists and pedestrians are out recreating, we ask all motorists to remain alert and aware."

The intersection of North Overland Trail and Laporte Avenue was closed for approximately 3 hours while officers processed the scene. Investigators are working to determine if speed was a factor in the collision. Anyone with information, who has not already spoken to police, is asked to call Officer Ken Koski (970) 416-2229.
