On Wednesday, April 28, 2021, Fort Collins Police received reports of a student who had displayed a gun and made threatening statements while on Lincoln Middle School property.

Upon receiving the reports, School Resource Officers immediately conducted an investigation and made contact with the student. The weapon was determined to be a BB gun, and the student was cited for Interference with Staff, Faculty, or Students of an Educational Institution.

"The safety of our students and staff is a matter we take seriously," said Sgt. Laura Lunsford, who supervises the School Resource Officer program. "I'm grateful for the quick response of SROs and partnership with staff to resolve this situation and minimize disruption to the learning environment."

Due to statutory privacy protections afforded to juveniles, the student’s name will not be released. All charges are simply an accusation by law enforcement officers, and all parties must be presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
