Just after 10 a.m. on January 14, 2021, Fort Collins Police responded to the 2100 block of Bronson Street for a domestic disturbance involving a knife. The 65-year-old female victim was able to leave the home and contacted police. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The 74-year-old male suspect remained in the home and refused to exit. At approximately 12:45, officers entered the home and were able to safely contact the man. He was transported for an area hospital for evaluation.
As a precautionary measure, three nearby schools were placed on "secure status" for approximately two and a half hours during the incident. During "secure status," activities continue as normal inside the building, but all exterior doors remain locked and there is no outside building access.
"I'm grateful for the work of our first responder partners who helped provide care for all involved in this incident," said FCPS Assistant Chief Kristy Volesky. "I also appreciate the efforts of our Special Weapons and Tactics team, who responded to help reach a safe resolution. The mission of SWAT is to save lives, and this is evident in their approach to situations like this."
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident, who has not already spoken to police, may contact Detective Andy Kinkead at 970-221-6557.
