On Tuesday, the Fort Collins City Council voted to appoint Melanie Potyondy to fill the District 4 Council seat vacated by Kristin Stephens. She will take a ceremonial oath of office at the Jan. 19 City Council meeting.
Potyondy, a school psychologist, serves or has served on numerous boards and committees including the Colorado Department of Education Mental Health Advisory Committee, the Colorado Society of School Psychologists, and the City of Fort Collins Women’s Commission.
Stephens’s seat was vacated Dec. 31 after her election to the office of Larimer County Commissioner. City Council interviewed candidates during a special meeting Jan. 6 and accepted public feedback on candidates through Jan. 12.
Potyondy will fill the vacancy until a newly elected representative takes office after the April 2021 election to serve the remainder of Stephens’s original four-year term.
