On August 18, 2020 at approximately 3:12 p.m., Fort Collins Police were notified of a head on collision in the 1600 block of South Taft Hill Road.

A black 2017 Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on Taft Hill Road when a southbound 2008 Mini Cooper drifted into the oncoming lanes of traffic. The Mini Cooper collided with the Corolla. An adult female in the Corolla died as a result of the collision. The adult male driver of the Corolla sustained minor injuries, and the adult male driver of the Mini Cooper sustained serious injuries. Police are investigating whether the driver of the Mini Cooper was under the influence of alcohol.

Due to the severity of the collision, the Fort Collins CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded and took over the investigation. Taft Hill Road was closed between Prospect and Stuart for approximately 3.5 hours while the scene was processed.

"We offer our deepest condolences to all grieving this tragic loss," said FCPS Chief Jeff Swoboda. "Losing a loved one suddenly is especially difficult, and our hearts are with them tonight."

Anyone who witnessed the collision, who has not already spoken to police, is asked to call Officer Ken Koski at 970-416-2229. The Larimer County Coroner will release the identity of the deceased woman at a later time.
