Contact Information

On June 26, 2020 at 9:58am, Fort Collins Police Services was notified of a collision involving a truck versus multiple pedestrians at the intersection of Prospect Road and Azalea Drive. Callers reported a truck went off the roadway and collided with multiple AEG construction crewmembers. AEG is a contract partner for Connexion, the City of Fort Collins Broadband provider.

When officers arrived, they determined that a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado truck had traveled west on Prospect Road. The truck crossed over the oncoming lane of traffic before driving off the southeast corner of the intersection with Azalea Drive. The truck collided with four crewmembers who were working off the roadway.

Three adult workers suffered serious injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. One adult male worker was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identity will be released by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.

The driver of the truck, Scott Duwaldt, 52, of Laramie, Wyoming, was not injured. He was arrested and booked at the Larimer County Jail on the following charges:

· Vehicular Homicide (class 3 felony)

· Vehicular Assault – 3 counts (class 4 felony)

· Driving Under the Influence (traffic misdemeanor)

Prospect Road was closed between Larch Street and La Reatta Court for approximately 4.5 hours while investigators processed the scene. Based on the investigation, police believe that Duwaldt was under the influence of drugs at the time of the collision.

Anyone with information about the collision, who has not already given a statement to police, is asked to contact Officer Drew Jurkofsky at (970) 416-2224.

The charges are merely an accusation and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

“Fort Collins Connexion, City of Fort Collins Light & Power, and the entire City staff are heartbroken over today’s tragedy. We extend our deepest condolences to the victims, their families, and their fellow crewmembers,” said Colman Keane, Broadband Executive Director for Connexion. “The safety of our employees and contractors who provide critical infrastructure services every day is our top priority, and we rely on every community member to help ensure they can go home to their families safely each day. Please be alert, cautious and drive slowly near construction zones.”
