Order suspending parking enforcement rescinded

Released on Thursday, June 25, 2020
Contact Information

The City of Fort Collins has rescinded its order suspending enforcement of some parking violations as economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic continues, although ending the order does not mean the City will be immediately issuing tickets.

The City’s Parking Services department will continue to support the vitality of Downtown businesses, including use of the curbside pickup and designated outdoor dining areas within public parking stalls. Although enforcement of parking rules may resume, the City will take an educational approach for the time being.

This also means Parking Services will continue discussions with a variety of Downtown stakeholders to establish a successful transitional parking plan, while allowing the flexibility to serve community needs as services are reopened to the public.

Parking Services has officially been operating at an emergency support level of coverage and patrol for the downtown area since April 1, which included suspending enforcement of non-safety related violations, such as time-limited and block face rule violations. The goal was to support the business owners and employees who were required to be downtown and those who were supporting downtown by shopping or visiting.

In addition, some government services were also placed on hold, making it challenging to obtain vehicle registration information, for example.

Parking Services is dedicated to slowly and systematically ramping back up operations to help with business recovery and to assist with providing ongoing service to the community.

While the City navigates the transitional period, certain areas of traffic code regulation enforcement will continue and/or be re-initiated.

A copy of the notice rescinding Emergency Order 2020-07 is included with this press release.
