Police Investigate Serious Injury Collision
We are sad to report that one of the injured parties, Payton Spahn, died as a result of her injuries in this incident.
On August 22 at 11:44am, Fort Collins Police Services responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of Timberline and Drake Roads. Callers reported two vehicles were involved and one occupant was trapped.
A 2019 GMC Terrain SUV was traveling north on Timberline Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Drake Road against the red turn signal light. A 2014 Ford F150 truck was traveling south on Timberline Road and collided with the passenger side of the SUV.
The driver of the SUV, Ashley Anderson, 18, of Cheyenne, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Her front seat passenger, Payton Spahn, 19, of Cheyenne, was extricated from the SUV and transported to Medical Center of the Rockies with serious injuries. The driver of the truck, Harley Freeman, 68, of Loveland, suffered moderate injuries.
The intersection of Timberline and Drake Roads was closed for approximately 3 hours while investigators processed the scene. Police do not believe alcohol, drugs or speed contributed to the collision. The investigation continues and charges are pending.
