On Monday, July 8, work began to replace undersized stormwater pipe and large diameter water valves in Laporte Avenue. This work requires a full closure of Laporte Avenue between Whitcomb and Wood streets through August. Intersections at Wood and Laporte and Whitcomb and Laporte will remain partially open.
Utilities construction crews will replace approximately 1,600 linear feet of stormwater pipe and eight inlets in the 600, 700 and 800 blocks of Laporte Avenue. Additionally, crews will replace galvanized water services and large diameter water valves.
FCMoves will install a new pedestrian and bicycle crossing at the intersection of Laporte Avenue and Loomis Street. This enhanced crossing will replace the existing mid-block pedestrian signal west of
Loomis Street. It will include a pedestrian-activated flashing beacon, crosswalks and curb extensions to help pedestrians and bicyclists safely cross the street. For more information, visit https://fcgov.com/bicycling or contact Project Manager Dan Woodward at ZHdvb2R3YXJkQGZjZ292LmNvbQ== or 970-416-4203.
After Utilities work is complete, the Streets Department will replace damaged curb, gutter and sidewalk. The concrete road will be removed and replaced with an asphalt surface to reduce road noise and maintenance issues.
