Spring is here and perhaps you have been avoiding pulling the bicycle out of the garage because of a flat tire or maybe you just don’t feel confident in the saddle. Well, the City of Fort Collins FC Bikes department is here to help by offering three new programs aimed at making cycling a little easier for folks this season.

Dust off your bike and bring it to the Bike Fix-it Bonanza on Saturday, April 27, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. FC Bikes is partnering with local shops and organizations to provide free bicycle safety checks and minor adjustments at five locations in the community. In addition, you can grab a snack and engage in activities such as e-bike demos and games while you wait for your safety check. Locations include: Lee Martinez Park, Salud Family Health Center on Laporte, Trinity Lutheran Church on East Stuart, Shepherd of the Hills Church on Taft Hill, and the CSU Trial Garden on Remington Street. Visit fcgov.com/bicycling for a map of locations and list of local partners.

FC Bikes is also offering programs for groups and individuals who want to get pedaling. For groups, one of the best ways to learn more about bikes is by simply Borrowing Our Bicycle Ambassadors to create a custom bike program for your group. This initiative is available to any group including neighborhoods, schools, businesses, faith-based organizations and scout troops. Groups can select a program that meets their needs, from fixing a flat to learning the rules of the road related to bicycling (classroom-style or on-bike), and the FC Bikes Bicycle Ambassadors will lead the training for no-cost. To customize a program for your group, visit fcgov.com/borrowbikeambassador or call 970.221.6987 and learn more.

Another program available this spring to help you overcome barriers to bicycling more is City’s Bike Buddy Program. The Bike Buddy program pairs you with a Bicycle Ambassador who will work one-on-one with you to teach you the ins and outs of using a bicycle for transportation. From route finding to selecting the right gear to safely riding with traffic, the Bike Buddy program is designed to help those who want to bike to work, school or anywhere in town with more confidence and ability.

To register for the no-cost Bike Buddy program, visit fcgov.com/bikebuddy or call 970.221.6987.
