Police Investigate Injury Crash at Plum/Shields
Show archived press release
On April 9 at 7:06 a.m., Fort Collins Police Services was notified of a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of Shields and Plum Streets involving a City of Fort Collins Transfort bus.
Through the course of the investigation, officers determined that a 2012 Toyota sedan had been traveling south on Shields Street approaching Plum Street. Other traffic traveling north and south on Shields Street had stopped for a red traffic light.
A 2018 Transfort bus started crossing Plum Street from west to east. As it entered the intersection, the Toyota sedan steered to the east and broadsided the driver side of the Transfort bus. After colliding with the bus, the sedan collided with a 2005 GMC box truck stopped in the westbound left turn lane of Plum Street on the east side of the intersection.
The driver of the Toyota sedan, Hannah Shikh-Salim, 30, of Fort Collins, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of the GMC box truck, driver of the Transfort bus, and bus passengers were not injured.
The driver of the Toyota sedan was issued a summons for Careless Driving. Police do not believe alcohol or speed contributed to the collision. Plum Street was closed on the east side of the intersection for approximately 4 hours while investigators processed the scene.
Anyone with information about the collision, who has not already given a statement to police, is asked to contact Officer Drew Jurkofsky at 970-416-2224 or Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at 970-221-6868 or www.stopcriminals.org. All charges are simply an accusation by law enforcement officers, and any arrested party must be presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
