Police Investigate Accidental Drowning Death

On June 21, 2018 around 10:10 pm, Fort Collins Police Services received a call regarding a man known to the caller as "Cordell." The caller said he and a group of others had just met Cordell earlier that day and had been barbecuing at Legacy Park in the afternoon. He said Cordell had been intoxicated and may have gone floating on the river. The caller hadn't seen Cordell in several hours. Officers checked the area and contacted local hospitals, but they were unable to locate Cordell or find any witnesses to confirm his last known location.

On June 24, 2018, a deceased male was located in the Poudre River near Legacy Park. The Larimer County Coroner identified the man as Cordell Starkey, 31, recently of Fort Collins. The Coroner determined that his cause of death was Asphyxia by Drowning and manner of death was Accident.
