The shooting incident that occurred on July 1, 2017 involved officers from Fort Collins Police Services and Colorado State University Police Department. During this incident, a Fort Collins Police employee discharged her weapon. Officer Erin Mast has served with FCPS since 2015. Prior to her time at the agency, she served as a police officer at University of Northern Colorado from 2013-2015. She has been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with agency policy. FCPS intends to make Officer Mast’s body camera video from this incident available for public release once all investigative and review processes have concluded.

The Larimer County Coroner’s Office has identified the suspect in this incident as Jeremy Holmes, 19, of Fort Collins.
Initial CIRT Press Release: On July 1, 2017, at approximately 8:13 p.m., Colorado State University Police officers responded to a call regarding a threatening male. The officers contacted the man near South Whitcomb Street and West Prospect Road at 8:38 p.m. Officers from Fort Collins Police Services arrived to assist.
Upon contacting the man, officers found him to be armed with a weapon. During the course of their interaction, police fired shots, striking the man. The man was transported to Medical Center of the Rockies where he was pronounced dead. The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the suspect at a later time. No officers were injured. There is no indication that the decedent was a student at Colorado State University and there is no ongoing risk to the public.
The 8th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) was notified and has responded to take over the investigation. The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office will be the lead investigating agency. The investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.
