Over 50 entries participated in The City of Fort Collins 2017 4th of July Parade presented by the Blue Ocean Foundation. Thousands of people lined scenic Mountain Avenue on a perfect Independence Day morning. The parade honored the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War and those who served. Vietnam Veteran, David Mosnik served as the parade’s Grand Marshal. A patriotic musical performance by the 101st Army Band was a highlight of the parade. Other parade entries included: Colorado State University, US Forest Service, Fort Collins Police Services, Poudre Fire Authority, Larimer County Search and Rescue, Veteran’s Plaza of Northern Colorado, UCHealth, Fort Collins Lions Club and the City of Fort Collins Utilities Department.
Parade entries were judged in four categories - Best Overall, Most Patriotic, Most Creative and Most Enthusiastic. Parade entries were judged by Mayor Wade Troxell, Mayor Pro Tem Gerry Horak, Blue Ocean Foundation Board Member-Chris Sorenson, DDA Board Member-Bevin Parker and Colorado State University Executive Director of Community Outreach and Engagement-Gary Ozzello. The final scoring was very close and the results are as follows:
Most Patriotic: 101st Army Band (Buckley AFB, Aurora CO)
Most Enthusiasm: Jazzercise of Fort Collins
Most Creative: Cub Scout Pack 188
Best Overall: Rocky Mountain Golden Girls Baton Academy (3rd year in a row)
