The intersection of Drake and Shields streets will be closed for paving from 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23 through 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26. Detours will be College Avenue and Prospect, Taft Hill, and Horsetooth roads. Local business and residential access will remain open.
This is the last step in the project to improve safety and congestion at this intersection. There is not a CSU football home game during the closure. The entire project, including landscaping, will be complete by the end of September.
The Drake and Shields intersection was identified as a top-ranked area for needed improvements in the City’s 2011 Arterial Intersection Prioritization Study. Ninety percent of the project funding is from federal grants and 10 percent from the 2005 Building on Basics quarter-cent tax.
