Transfort was recently named “Large Transit System of the Year” at the 2013 Colorado Association of Transit Agencies (CASTA)/Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Fall Transit Conference and Expo.

CASTA Executive Director Elena Wilkens stated, “The Colorado Association of Transit Agencies transit community is pleased to present this award to Transfort for the design and implementation of the MAX System.” Transfort was recognized for its achievements in providing innovative and creative services in the community, being responsive to customer and community needs, and effectively supplying safe and reliable service. Wilkens noted, “Transfort certainly exemplifies all these qualities with the existing bus service and the forward-looking and innovative MAX System.” The award category recognizes transit providers operating more than 25 vehicles during peak periods.

Kurt Ravenschlag, General Manager for Transfort, said, "We are very pleased that the City and Transfort have been recognized for our dedication to public transportation. This award demonstrates our continued commitment to providing exceptional, customer-focused service that meets our community’s current and future transit needs.”

Transfort was nominated for the award by Gary Thomas of Senior Alternatives in Transportation (SAINT). A non-profit agency serving Fort Collins and Loveland, SAINT provides personal transportation through the use of volunteers to those 60 years and older and those with disabilities that prevent them from driving. Thomas explained he nominated Transfort for this award in large part because of the future MAX Bus Rapid Transit system.

“Transfort staff along with the rest of the city transportation group has shown remarkable creativity and perseverance to overcome financial and physical obstacles over the past 17 years to bring this project to completion.” said Thomas. “Already the city is seeing a boom in residential construction and economic development along the corridor.

CASTA is a statewide trade association for transit providers, vendors, government agencies and other interested organizations including over 70 transit agencies from across Colorado.
