Grandview Avenue Valve Replacements

Laporte Avenue between Shields Street and Taft Hill Road will be closed to through traffic from July 7-August 8 to replace waterline valves in Laporte and Grandview Avenues.

All residents and local business will have access. There will be short (two to four hour) water service outage periods during construction.

The 1920s lines and valves will be replaced in three phases and will complete a project that has been ongoing since 2008. Finishing this project will enhance water service reliability and safety in the area and will also coincide with Laporte Avenue repaving later this summer.

Key Facts and Timeline

Water rehabilitation work will be completed in three phases over the summer of 2014.

Phase 1: Taft Hill Waterline

  • Scheduled to start June 9 and last approximately two weeks.
  • This phase is complete.
  • These custom-built water valves from the 1920's were removed and new valves were installed during this project.

Phase 2: Pipeline Replacement at Grandview Ave.

  • This phase is complete.

Phase 3: Major Valve Replacements in Laporte Ave. and Grandview Ave. Intersection

  • Utilities work is complete in this area as of August 7.
  • Laporte Ave. remains closed to through traffic from Shields St. to Taft Hill Rd. as the Streets Department finishes paving work in the area.
