If youve ever remodeled a room in your house, or just repainted part of your place, you know how difficult it is to live with the mess, disorder, and drop cloths. Imagine remodeling a performing arts center. Thanks to Building on Basics funding, the Lincoln Center is about to do just that!
In order to remain a viable, competitive cultural venue, some things in the Lincoln Center need fixin. A refreshed, user-friendly lobby. Improved backstage facilities for guests/acts. Additional restrooms on each floor. An elevator to the balcony level. And more! Watch the Lincoln Center's website, for construction updates beginning in June 2010.
When we sat down with Susan Herlihy, Public Relations Coordinator at the Lincoln Center, we were impressed with the amount of collaboration and partnering that staff is investing with the many arts and community groups who rent the facility for performances, meetings, and gallery shows. No one will be left homeless during the remodel. Susan and others are helping groups find temporary space during the 10-month project. Box office, marketing and technical support by Lincoln Center staff will continue throughout the renovations.
Meanwhile, the Lincoln Center is very much open for business. Top performances you dont want to miss in the coming months include Shanghai Circus visiting Jan. 20-23, presenting an awesome display of human flexibility, athleticism, and wonder. Inspired by Americas Got Talent and Dancing with the Stars? Make plans to see Momix, Jan. 28. You might recognize this traveling troupe of entertaining performersthey recently appeared in Hanes underwear commercials.
