Preparing the Future Workforce
In 2008 Fort Collins was recognized as one of the Top 10 Most Educated Communities (Forbes magazine) and one of the Best Places to Raise Kids (#1 in Colorado, Business Week). Quality educational and extracurricular offerings at Poudre School District (PSD) are major reasons Fort Collins makes the top of so many national lists.
The school district integrates a STEM curriculum into their pathways for students, which includes the subject areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Students follow “pathways” of learning by taking a variety of classes in the different disciplines. Upon graduation students apply their knowledge to specialized degree programs and careers in the science, technology, math and engineering fields. Soon teachers will benefit from the pathways approach by participating in local internships in the industries and career areas they teach.
Preparing our future workforce for Fort Collins jobs is very important to PSD. This spring, they are offering classes to high school students in clean energy manufacturing and mapping technology---two strong industries in Fort Collins.
Example STEM extracurricular activities include engineering career exploration, science Olympiads, science fairs, environmental clubs and robotic programs. Learn more about the PSD pathways »
