Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed Awarded Environmental Stewardship Award

The Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed announced today that Larimer County has chosen it as one of three winners for the 2014 Environmental Stewards Award.Every year, the Larimer County Environmental Advisory Board and the Larimer County Commissioners recognize the innovative and proactive environmental efforts of county residents, businesses, organizations and/or agencies through the Environmental Stewardship Awards.
CPRW Executive Director Jennifer Kovecses, will accept the award during Larimer County’s land use meeting on Dec. 8.
“CPRW works collaboratively to plan, prioritize, and raise funds with the goal of increasing the implementation of effective restoration in the upper Cache La Poudre watershed,†said Kovecses. “I am so proud of what our coalition has accomplished and we deeply appreciate the county’s recognition of these collaborative efforts.â€
Initially started as an informal network working on post-fire restoration, CPRW has now received its official 501(c)(3) status and is bringing stakeholders together to continue working on post-fire restoration and other high priority watershed issues.
“Larimer County believes that we can accomplish better solutions to the environmental challenges facing our county by working together and CPRW truly reflects that philosophy†said Suzanne Bassinger, recovery manager for Larimer County and a CPRW board member.
Building on its past success, CPRW has started the design of critical restoration projects for the Poudre Watershed, to be implemented in spring 2015.
“As one of the founders of CPRW, Rocky Mountain Flycasters is honored to see the efforts of CPRW recognized by the county,†said Dick Jefferies, chair of the CPRW board and president of Rocky Mountain Flycasters. “We are proud of the work CPRW and its partners have achieved so far and are truly excited that CPRW is beginning implementation of new, high priority restoration projects in the Poudre Watershed. The long term health of our watershed depends on science based, strategic planning that leads to action. CPRW is making that happen.â€
