Fort Collins Utilities Observes Public Power Week, October 6-12

Posted on: Oct-04-2013

The safety, quality and reliability of our community’s electricity are priorities for Fort Collins Utilities’ Light and Power. Public Power Week, October 6-12, provides the opportunity to recognize the many behind-the-scenes employees who work year-round to ensure our electricity remains safe and is available when it’s needed.

Light and Power operates and maintains the Fort Collins’ electric distribution system, including nearly 1,800 miles of electric lines, seven distribution substations and just over 11,000 City streetlights.

Since its establishment in 1935, Light and Power has adapted to changing technology and citizen needs and has progressed beyond industry standards. Today, the utility features a nationally recognized, state-of-the-art underground distribution system with reliability numbers that are consistently above 99.99 percent.

As Light and Power progresses, youth and adult education, conservation programs and a variety of efficiency rebates provide awareness and savings opportunities, to benefit both the customer and the environment.
