July 1 marks the opening of Fort Collins’ first Bike 'n Ride secure bike parking shelters. The two shelters are located at the north and south ends of the MAX bus rapid transit route. The south facility is at Transfort's South Transit Center and the north facility is located in the City’s Civic Center Parking Structure, close to the Northbound Mountain Street MAX station. The Bike 'n Ride shelters protect bikes from the elements and offer additional security to patrons with on-site lighting, locked door access and security cameras.
Annual membership to use the Bike 'n Ride Shelters costs $20, plus a refundable $10 deposit for an access card. To buy a membership and learn more, riders can visit a Transfort Transit Center or a City of Fort Collins Parking Services customer service desk, or by calling 970-221-6620 or 970-221-6617.
Bike ‘n Ride shelter membership makes using alternative transportation easier than ever for Fort Collins citizens. Transit riders can bike to a station, leave their bike in a secured shelter and take MAX or another Transfort route to their destination.
Expansion plans in 2016
2016 will bring new enhancements to combining bike and transit trips. In January 2016, FLEX will add additional trips from Fort Collins connecting into CU's campus in Boulder. Plus, additional Bike 'n Ride shelters are planned at Fort Collins' University MAX Station and the Downtown Transit Center, as well as their integration into Boulder County's network of Bike 'n Ride shelters.
