This summer, the Fort Collins community has enjoyed riding MAX Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Service for free. This fare-free period allowed Transfort the opportunity to introduce its newest line of service to the City while providing time to make refinements to the system. With the winding down of the summer season, MAX’s fare-free period will end with the last day to catch a free ride being Saturday, August 23.
Starting Monday, August 25, riders will be required to purchase a ticket or present a valid pass for all trips on MAX. The rapid boarding process of Max operates slightly differently different than other Transfort service lines, and riders do not need to present the ticket or pass to the driver on MAX when boarding. Instead, passengers should purchase a ticket or pass with cash or credit card at one of the station ticket vending machines or transit centers BEFORE boarding the MAX. Transit Service Officers (TSO) will enforce the fare requirements by randomly inspecting for valid fares on MAX buses. Riders should be prepared to show a ticket or bus pass to a Transit Service Officer once on board MAX. Passengers without a valid fare will be subject to a warning, removal from the bus, or a citation.
To assist with the transition, MAX Ambassadors will be stationed various MAX stops throughout the week of August 25. Ambassadors will help riders with the ticket vending machines, determining fare, and route information. Fares for MAX are the same as the rest of the Transfort system. All Transfort ticket and passes are valid on MAX, so if you don’t already have a Transfort pass, now is a great time to get one to speed up the boarding process.
