If you’ve driven along North College Avenue during the past several months, you’ve probably noted things look different. The City of Fort Collins and Colorado Department of Transportation are working together on this stretch of US Highway 287 to improve overall safety, economic vitality and community livability. The vision for this important northern gateway to Fort Collins is almost a full reality. There are lots of new features from Jefferson Street to Conifer Street; the final stretch to Willox Lane is now ready for its makeover.
Join staff at an open house to discuss the proposed improvements for North College from Conifer Street to Willox Lane. View displays of the preliminary design layout of the roadway, bike lanes, landscape, sidewalks and conceptual renderings of the urban design features and aesthetic enhancements. One proposed improvement for this section is landscaped medians in the center of College Avenue. This open house is an opportunity for the public to see how the proposed medians could function and offer critical feedback on issues related to business access. The project design team will be there to offer details and collect feedback that will help as staff moves forward with design decisions.

The City aims to begin construction on this last piece of North College in 2014. With funding secured for the design and necessary right-of-way acquisition, the project team will continue to work closely with the affected property owners and local business community, specifically the North Fort Collins Business Association, to develop design plans which meet City and State goals, yet still work with existing businesses.
