The City of Fort Collins Natural Areas Program is hosting a on Wednesday, June 29th, from 4-6 p.m. at Primrose Studio (4300 Michaud Lane). The purpose of the open house is to provide an opportunity for neighbors and the general public to view the plans for a new parking lot, trail, and picnic area to be constructed off North Overland Trail on Reservoir Ridge Natural Area. This parking lot and trail access to the Foothills Trail was envisioned for the site since 2007, as presented in the Foothills Natural Areas Management Plan. Reservoir Ridge neighbors participated in an open house in 2009 to evaluate these and other potential future uses of the property. At that time, a picnic area was identified as a desired neighborhood and community amenity for the site. Approximately 1.5 miles of new trail will be constructed to connect the Foothills Trail to the new parking lot and picnic area. The parking lot will initially contain 10 vehicle parking spaces, two handicapped spaces, and a horse trailer/bus parking space, plus a vault toilet. Trail construction is expected to begin this summer, with other amenities to be constructed this fall and winter.
