Fort Collins, CO – June 2nd 2006. The City of Fort Collins is taking a new approach this year in the promotion of the annual “Bike to Work Day.” In addition to “Bike to Work Day”, a week of community bike events have also been scheduled. Representatives from local bicycling organizations and the City’s new bicycle coordinator have teamed up to create a week of events dedicated to promoting bicycles as a way of life in Fort Collins.
The Bike Week Committee, a consortium of representatives from local bicycling organizations, and the City of Fort Collins are pleased to announce the following events for the 2006 Fort Collins Bike Week, June 26 – July 1.
6/26 – Monday - Commuter Kickoff – 7:30am meet at the CSU oval, end at Civic Center Park.
Hundreds of commuters will join local leaders for a short 15 minute pre-work bike ride.
Bike Tour Slide Shows – 7:00pm at Everyday Joe’s Coffee House (144 S. Mason)
Four local presenters showcase their bike tour experiences.
6/27 – Tuesday - Bike Pedal vs. Gas Pedal Challenge – At 4:30pm, a car driver and bike rider will journey on the same errand run around town. Complete story at fcgov.com/bicycling
BMX Races – 6:00pm at Edora Park (BMX track, 1420 East Stuart St.)
6/28 – Wednesday - Bike to Work Day – Which businesses are the most bike friendly in Fort Collins? Breakfast station information at fcgov.com/bicycling
Bike Show – 7:00pm at Bean Cycle (144 N. College Ave.)
Locals enter can enter their own bicycle(s) into the show. Prizes for winners.
6/29 – Thursday - Bike Safe Fort Collins -- 10:00am – 2:00pm, Senior Center (1200 Raintree Dr.).
Bike rodeo, bike safety class, bike helmet fittings for all ages, practice courses, & easy to ride bike demos.
6/30 – Friday - Cruise to the Movies -- Meet at 8:00pm at the Lincoln Center for one hour bike ride around town. Bike ride ends at New Belgium Brewing Company (500 Linden) Movie: Emmanuel’s Gift, start time, 9:15pm. Children welcome, bring blanket and/or chair.
7/1 – Saturday
Bike Bazaar Festival -- 8:00am – 3:00pm - Rolland Moore Park (2201 S. Shields). Featuring: recreational rides, bike swap, bike demos, commuter bike exhibits, live music, food, recycled bike sale, & bike polo games.
Bike to Shop & Eat Program. Bike Week participants receive Bike Week tokens good toward a variety of discounts at many Fort Collins businesses.
