Police Investigate Suspicious Death at Sheldon Lake

At 6:10 p.m. on June 21, Fort Collins 9-1-1 received a report of a body in Sheldon Lake at City Park. First responders located a deceased adult female in the water and activated the Larimer County Dive Team for recovery.

The Larimer County Coroner has identified the victim as 23-year-old Heather “Helena” Hoffmann of Fort Collins. Helena was employed at the McDonald’s located on W Elizabeth Street and City Park Avenue. She was last seen leaving work on June 21 at 1 a.m. when her shift ended. Helena lived in the area of Laporte Avenue and Shields Street and typically walked home from work. She was found in Sheldon Lake wearing a black polo shirt with a McDonald’s logo, black pants, black boots, and a black purse. A photo of Helena is attached.

Police are investigating this as a suspicious death. Residents may see continued police activity in the area around Sheldon Lake as officers actively work on this case.
