Experience Documentation#

General Contractors#

General contractor license and construction supervisor applicants must have prior construction experience to work in Fort Collins and must provide detailed documentation on a minimum of three completed construction projects in which the applicant had a primary supervisory role such as the general contractor or the superintendent.  Class A, B, C-1, C1-RR, C-2, D-1, D-2, D2-RR, E & E2 applicants must provide documents that verify supervision experience for the construction of three entire buildings which meet the scope and complexity required for the desired license class.  Experience limited to phases or portions of a building, such as the foundation, the frame, and other building components, is considered insufficient unless approved by the Building Review Board. See Class Descriptions & Qualifications for more detailed information on the types of projects required.

Project Verification Forms (General Contractor) should be used to document project experience.  Separate Project Verification Forms must be used to document each project submitted.  Each form must be completed in its entirety.  The forms must be signed by a person other than the applicant or a member of the company applying for the license. The person who signs the form must have been directly involved in the project and in a position to verify applicant’s professional role in that particular project. Persons such as a project owner, the general contractor, a project architect or engineer, or other construction professional are acceptable sources. Including a resume summarizing a complete history of an applicant’s experience, education, and training is highly recommended.

Specialized Trade Contractors#

Specialized trade contractor license and supervisor applicants must also have prior construction experience to work in Fort Collins and must provide detailed documentation on a minimum of three completed projects in which the applicant had a primary supervisory role. The applicant must also demonstrate that they have acted in a supervisor role for at least the minimum time required. See Descriptions & Qualifications for Specialized Trade Contractors for more detailed information on the types of projects required, as well as the time requirements for safety-sensitive specialized trade contractors vs. less-safety sensitive specialized trade contractors.

Project Verification Forms (Specialized Trade) should be used to document project experience. Separate Project Verification Forms should be used to document each project submitted. Each form must be completed in its entirety. The forms must be signed by a person other than the applicant or a member of the company applying for the license. The person who signs the form must have been directly involved in the project and in a position to verify applicant's professional role in that particular project. Persons such as a project owner, the general contractor, a project architect or engineer, or other construction professional are acceptable sources. Including a resume summarizing a complete history of an applicant's experience, education, and training is highly recommended.

NOTE: It is the responsibility of the applicant to furnish all necessary documents, and to assure that the information shown on those documents is complete.  Incomplete information will cause delays in processing.  Permit numbers and completion dates are imperative.  Copies of actual permits and certificates of occupancy and/or inspection results showing final inspection information is required.  Lack of those forms will delay the approval process.
