Xeriscape Incentive Program Draws a Crowd, Ready for 2018 Planting Season

Posted on: Oct-18-2017

Fort Collins Utilities Water Conservation Department recently hosted an open house on its Xeriscape Incentive Program (XIP) designed to help residents learn how to create beautiful, water-friendly landscapes to a packed crowd at the Gilded Goat Brewery.

XIP is a good fit for those who want to reduce water bills, attract birds and pollinators, cut back on mowing or improve yard aesthetics. The program currently is accepting applicants for next year, with workshop registration beginning in January. Complete the enrollment form at https://www.fcgov.com/xip to reserve your spot for the 2018 planting season.

The program allows eligible Utilities water customers to receive a rebate for installing a qualified xeriscape design. A streamlined process, free education workshops and online resources help participants prepare for and navigate the design, installation and upkeep stages.

This year marks the second successful year of XIP since it was restructured, resulting in a 16 percent increase in completed landscape renovations over 2016. On average, participants received a $658 rebate for their projects, adding a total of nearly 50,000 square feet of new, water-saving xeriscape.
