Shadow Tree Planting Project at Spring Canyon Park
Saturday, September 30  |  9 a.m.-noon
Volunteer to "shadow-plant" trees under ash trees in Spring Canyon Community Park. Our ash trees are threatened by the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive species that has been detected only within Boulder County. Shadow planting is planting 2-inch caliper trees near susceptible ash trees. This allows the positive benefits trees provide to continue once the ash tree needs to be removed due to eventual emerald ash borer infestation.

Volunteers will receive lunch. Please bring your own gloves and wear closed toed shoes. Sunscreen, materials, and tools are provided. Kids projects available. If we finish planting early, mulching projects will also be available. We will be near the playground off of Horsetooth Road. All ages welcome.

Remove Cattle Fencing for Bison at Soapstone Prairie
Sunday, September 30  |  7:30 a.m.- 1 p.m.
Volunteer to help expand the Laramie Foothills Bison Conservation Herd. Volunteers will work to remove old wire cattle fencing to make way for the phase II pasture expansion. Ages 16+ please.

Duties will include pulling t-posts, removing wire ties and rolling up wire. All necessary safety equipment including gloves, glasses, and snake chaps will be provided! Please come prepared to work outside in the sun - wear long pants, close toed shoes, a hat and sunscreen. Natural Areas will provide sunscreen, water, snacks and lunch - if you have any food allergies or restrictions, please email Diane Wendt at least 2 days before project dwendt@fcgov.com.

We have partnered with Odell Outreach to make for a great volunteer day! For carpooling purposes, we will be parking at Odell Brewery (800 E Lincoln Ave, Fort Collins, CO 80524) at 7:30 a.m. There will be 2 carpooling vans taking volunteers to and from Soapstone. The vans will leave at 7:30 a.m. sharp - we will be back at the brewery at about noon to enjoy lunch on the patio! (Note: you do not need to be 21 to enjoy lunch with us at Odell's but for those of you that choose to enjoy a brew after all of your hard work - Odell's has graciously offered to take care of your first round).

NOTE: Natural Areas are dynamic and so are we; the project may change for safety, weather, or site conditions. All registered participants will be notified via email at least 2 hours before project start time. Please check your email for updates before you go.
