Shadow Tree Planting Project
Saturday, September 30 | 9 a.m.-noon
Volunteer to "shadow-plant" trees under ash trees in Spring Canyon Community Park. Our ash trees are threatened by the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive species currently quarantined in Boulder County. Shadow planting is planting a sapling tree underneath the susceptible ash tree. This allows the positive benefits trees provide to continue once the ash tree needs to be removed due to hazardous conditions. Volunteers will receive lunch. Please bring your own gloves and wear closed toed shoes. Sunscreen, materials, and tools are provided. Kids projects available. If we finish planting early, mulching projects will also be available. We will be near the playground off of Horsetooth Road. All ages welcome.
Sunday, September 17 | 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. or 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
Come Ride the Route on along a nearly three-mile route. Our second Open Streets event of 2017 will be from Overland Park to S. Shields St. Enjoy programming along the route, including food trucks, live music, local artists, and more. Meet local businesses and organizations, and enjoy a day in the street, free of cars. We provide lunch to our volunteers, plus great swag donated from OtterBox and OtterCares Foundation, including a portable solar charger! Morning and afternoon positions are available.
National Public Lands Day
Sunday, September 30 | 7:30 a.m.- 1 p.m.
Volunteer to help expand the Laramie Foothills Bison Conservation Herd. Volunteers will work to remove old wire cattle fencing to make way for the phase II pasture expansion. Duties will include pulling t-posts, removing wire ties and rolling up wire. Lunch provided.
Bicyclist & Pedestrian Counts
September 12, 14 & 16 | 7-9 a.m., noon-2 p.m. or 5-7 p.m.
The City is conducting the annual bicylist and pedestrian counts throughout the community. Help us understand and promote cycling and walking in Fort Collins. Choose from a variety of two- hour shifts over the course of three days-- sign up for one or more! Volunteers are asked to attend a brief training session on September 6, and will also be eligable to win one of many Downtown Business Association gift cards.
Volunteer at the Timberline Recycling Center
We're looking for volunteers to help fellow recyclers at the Timberline Recycling Center (1903 S. Timberline). Learn about recycling in Fort Collins and help others unload their recyclables and place them in the correct bins. Which plastic goes where? Caps on or off? Why is glass separated out? If you have questions like these when it comes to recycling, consider directing your curiosity toward positive change! If you have a couple extra hours, come help others in our community to recycle right and recycle often!
