Police Investigate Fatal Auto-Pedestrian Collision

Released on Friday, January 15, 2021

On January 15, 2021 at 7:40pm, Fort Collins Police Services received a call of a truck verse pedestrian collision near the intersection of South College Avenue and East Prospect Road. A 2013 Dodge 2500 pick up truck was travelling north on College Avenue when a pedestrian ran from west to east in front of the truck and the two collided. The truck had a green traffic light and the pedestrian was not in the crosswalk when he was struck.

The driver of the truck, an adult female, stopped at the scene and was not injured. The pedestrian, an adult male, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The Larimer County Coroner will release the name of the decedent at a later time, and after family notifications.

Police do not suspect speed or alcohol to be a factor with the driver of the truck. The Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation. Northbound College Avenue was closed in between Lake Street and Stuart Street for approximately 4 hours while investigators processed the scene.

Anyone with information or witnessed this collision, who has not already spoken to police is asked to call Officer Drew Jurkofsky at (970) 416 2224.

"While we are still investigating the circumstances of why the pedestrian was in the roadway, our thoughts are with all who witnessed and were involved in this tragic incident," said Fort Collins Police Lieutenant Mike Trombley.
