Project Self-Sufficiency

A partnership between the City of Fort Collins and Project Self-Sufficiency, a local non-profit agency, is helping single parents who need a little assistance, due to income or other circumstances, to keep their cars in working order.

Under the agreement, mechanics from the City's Fleet Services Department volunteer one Saturday every other month to do routine maintenance on vehicles owned by low-income, single parents. The City allows the mechanics to use the City garage as the location for the car repair clinics.

The customers come from Project Self-Sufficiency, a non-profit agency that assists low-income, single parents in their efforts to maintain healthy families and achieve economic independence. Most of the agency's clients are single women with children.

The basic concept is simple. The City provides the location, the employees volunteer their time and labor, and the Project Self-Sufficiency participants must pay for supplies.
