Last month, Lucinda Smith, City of Fort Collins Environmental Services Department Director, received the Thomas W. Zosel Outstanding Individual Achievement Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Smith was one of seven groups and individuals recognized for their innovative work on clean air projects as part of the EPA’s 2020 Clean Air Excellence Awards.

Lucinda Smith has dedicated her career to environmental programs and includes leading updates to the City’s Air Quality Plan. During Smith’s tenure, she has also led climate action planning efforts and adoption of greenhouse gas emission reduction goals.

“For 17 years, the Clean Air Excellence awards have honored those who go above and beyond to improve air quality both at the local and national level,” said Anne Austin, Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator for EPA's Office of Air and Radiation. “Our winners’ inspirational dedication to environmental protection is a model for all of us, and we look forward to many more years of clean air innovation and collaboration.”

Smith and the Environmental Services Department continue to protect human health and the environment through continuous improvements in air quality. You can follow the City’s plans and policies here:
