On October 29, 2020 around 11:15 p.m., Fort Collins Police Services responded to a shooting at the intersection of Oak Street and College Avenue.

Officers learned that a disturbance had occurred in a group of people, during which a suspect pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots. The suspect then fled the area in a vehicle. Officers located one adult male victim with a gunshot wound, and he was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Police located the suspect vehicle nearby and made a high-risk traffic stop.

Abdirahman Ahmed, 22, of Fort Collins, was arrested and booked into the Larimer County Jail on the charges of Attempted Second Degree Murder (class 3 felony), First Degree Assault (class 3 felony), and three counts of felony menacing (class 5 felony). A handgun was recovered during the investigation.

“This was an incredibly dangerous crime committed with complete disregard for the lives of others,” said FCPS Chief Jeff Swoboda. “I'm grateful to the officers who responded rapidly, secured the scene, and safely took the suspect into custody."

Anyone with information, who has not already spoken to police, is encouraged to contact Detective CJ O’Loughlin at 970-416-2571. People who wish to remain anonymous may contact Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at 970-221-6868 or www.stopcriminals.org.

All charges are simply an accusation by law enforcement officers, and any arrested party must be presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
