Police Investigate Motorcycle Collision

On July 31 at approximately 12:37pm, Fort Collins Police Services was notified of a motorcycle versus truck collision near the intersection of College Avenue and Conifer Street.

A gray Toyota Tacoma truck was at a private drive on the west side of College Avenue, south of Conifer Street. As the truck was preparing to make a left turn onto northbound College Avenue, a Transfort bus stopped at a bus stop in the right through lane of southbound College Avenue just north of the private drive.

A Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling south on College Avenue in the left through lane. The truck started to make a left turn when the front of the motorcycle collided with the front of the truck.

The rider of the motorcycle, a 41-year-old man from Fort Collins, suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. He was not wearing a helmet. The driver of the truck, a 24-year-old man from Fort Collins, was not injured.

The southbound lanes of College Avenue were closed from Conifer Street to Hemlock Street for approximately 3 hours while investigators processed the scene. Police do not believe speed was involved but do believe the operator of the motorcycle was driving under the influence of alcohol. The investigation is continuing, and charges are pending against both drivers.

Anyone with information about the collision, who had not already given a statement to police, is asked to contact Officer Drew Jurkofsky at 970-416-2224.
