The Fort Collins Senior Center Expansion Committee, a citizen-led 501C3 formed in 2007, has been awarded a $1,250 challenge grant from the Nathan B. and Florence R. Burt Foundation. The committee is seeking donations to match this grant, which must be received by April 15, 2014. The funds will be utilized toward the purchase of fitness equipment for our new expansion project that is scheduled to open summer 2014. Please note that donors must print “Toward Burt Foundation matching grant” in the memo section of their checks to meet the challenge requirement.

The Expansion Committee has also received grants from the Boettcher Foundation ($25,000), Daniels Fund ($150,000), El Pomar Foundation ($15,000), Community Foundation of Northern Colorado through the Fort Collins Community Fund and Hammond-Gribbell Fund ($30,000), Griffin Foundation ($1,000), and Woodward Charitable Trust ($2,000).

The nationally recognized Fort Collins Senior Center opened in 1995 and has been operating at capacity since opening day. With Larimer County's 65+ population projected to grow by more than 140% over the next 20 years, Fort Collins voters in 2005 approved a $5.1 tax increase to expand the Senior Center. The expansion will create an additional 17,000 sq. ft. adding multi-purpose rooms, a cardio-fitness room, a dance and exercise studio, additional storage space, a larger lobby and social cafe, a wellness center, new administration space, and more parking.

The Senior Center Expansion Committee, a citizen-led 501(c)(3) non-profit, was formed to raise awareness about the need for the expansion and additional funds needed to support the project. For more information, visit
