The Northern Colorado Business Report named City of Fort Collins Chief Financial Officer Mike Beckstead one of seven CFOs of the Year Wednesday at its annual Business Leaders Breakfast ceremony.
Relatively new to the City, Beckstead received the honor for his work successfully managing Fort Collins’ finances in the two years he has served as CFO.
In his time here Beckstead has helped create the Monthly Operating Report, providing city leaders with a look at operational and financial data on a monthly basis. He also was instrumental in creating the Community Dashboard, a quarterly snapshot of the community’s progress.
"I am surprised and honored at such recognition, but I think this recognition really belongs to the entire Executive Leadership Team and my Financial Leadership Team. Everything I touch involves other people, it's their hard work and success that is the foundation for this type of recognition,” Beckstead said.
City employees, Ana Arias and Lucinda Smith nominated Beckstead for the award with the assistance of Budget and Performance Measurement Manager Lawrence Pollack.
Prior to being the City of Fort Collins CFO, Beckstead was the Director of Finance & Operations at the Salt Lake City Public Library and he has vast experience in the private sector. He has more than 25 years of success leading financial and operational performance improvement initiatives. His strategic leadership, financial assessment and change management expertise span a career that includes employers such as Navistar, Honeywell, AAR Corporation and Exelon Corporation.
“Mike brings a wealth of executive-level finance experience,” said City Manager Darin Atteberry at the time of his hire. “His background in strategic planning and performance measurement makes him a valuable addition to our organization and an outstanding leader for our Finance Department.”
