A full closure of Mason Street (south of Cherry to north of Laurel) will go into effect Monday, July 23 and last through Sunday, July 29. During the closure, no cars, bicycles or pedestrians will be allowed to cross this section of Mason. To facilitate mobility and access during this time, Transfort will provide free shuttle service around the construction zone.
The shuttle will run in a loop utilizing College Avenue, Laurel Street, Howes Street, and Cherry Street. This shuttle loop will allow pedestrians to easily move from the east or west side of Mason without having to walk to the far ends of the construction zone to cross the street. Shuttle stops will be clearly marked along both College and Howes – there will be a total of 11 stops along the route.
Operating hours for the shuttle will be Monday, July 23 to Saturday, July 28, 6:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. On Sunday, July 29, shuttle service will operate from 9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. During operating hours, the shuttle will run at a 10 minute frequency.
The Mason Street closure is required for railroad track replacement being conducted by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. These upgrades have been scheduled to coordinate with the conversion of Mason Street to two-way traffic later this August, and in preparation for construction of MAX Bus Rapid Transit.
