Beginning Tuesday, March 20, all traffic will be detoured around the intersection of Laporte Avenue and Whitcomb Street. This intersection will be closed until June 15, 2012.

The City of Fort Collins will be reconstructing a structurally deficient bridge that crosses under the intersection. During reconstruction, activities will occur both within and adjacent to the intersection. Once complete, the new structure will be able to safely support the wide variety of vehicles that utilize Laporte Avenue.

• Bridge Improvements
o New underground structure – 278 feet of 2.5’ x 18’ concrete box culvert
• Roadway Improvements
o Laporte Avenue – 1,098 square yards of new concrete pavement
o Whitcomb Street – 375 tons of new asphalt pavement
o Reconstructed curb and gutter
o Creation of new concrete sidewalk to extend 100 feet along Whitcomb on the southeast corner of the intersection

Travelers in the closure area can expect a quick, well-marked detour route utilizing Loomis Avenue and Mountain Avenue, which will keep things moving and cause very little impact to overall travel time. Laporte Avenue will be open to motorists by June 15, but construction activities will continue in the area through the end of July 2012.
