Suspect Arrested for Stabbing

On October 20, 2020 at approximately 4:00 p.m., Fort Collins Police officers responded to a report that a man had been stabbed in the 300 block of Jefferson Street. They quickly located the victim, a 35-year-old male, and he was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Through the course of the investigation, police learned that a male suspect had reportedly approached the victim and assaulted him, then fled the area on foot. Officers searched the area and contacted a man who matched the suspect description. He was identified as Jose Rodriguez, 39, of Fort Collins.
Rodriguez was arrested and booked into the Larimer County Jail. He faces charges of Felony Menacing (class 5 felony), First Degree Assault (class 3 felony), and Attempted First Degree Murder (class 2 felony).
“I’m grateful for the quick work of officers who apprehended the suspect nearby,” said Sergeant Heather Moore, who leads the Crimes Against Persons Unit. “I also appreciate the bystanders who provided important information to the detectives investigating this case. Our community is safest when we work together.”
The two men did not know each other, and the motivation for this violent crime is under investigation. All charges are simply an accusation by law enforcement officers, and any arrested party must be presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
